Automatic certification and learner tracking
Issue a certificate automatically when a course is completed, and track each learner's progress from their workspace.
Updated on June 14, 2026 Read: 4 min
Once the course is built and assigned, Certeef can issue a certificate automatically and gives the learner a consolidated view of their path.
Prerequisites
- Admin role.
- A published course with its lessons. See Create an online course.
1. Configure certification rules
In the course Certification tab, set the issuance conditions:
- Progress threshold : percentage of lessons to complete (e.g. 100%)
- Quiz success : all quiz lessons must be validated
- Minimum aggregate score : average score across quizzes and SCORM
When a learner meets all conditions, the certificate is generated as a PDF and attached to the (course, learner) pair, once only.
Tip: combine conditions for rigorous certifications, for example 100% progress AND aggregate score ≥ 70%.
2. Track progress
Progress and connection time are tracked per lesson and per course:
- Video playback resumed (position saved)
- Active heartbeat measuring real activity time
- Score and status of each quiz attempt
Review progress in the course Statistics tab or on the learner’s E-learning tab.
Important: progress is updated in real time. If you add lessons to an already-assigned course, the completion percentage for in-progress learners is recalculated automatically.
3. The learner workspace
From their path, the learner finds:
- My online courses : assigned courses with progress
- My certificates : downloadable PDFs on completion
- My quiz results : attempt history and scores
- My documents : published training documents, accessible through their sessions
What’s next?
- Quizzes and exercises : build assessments that condition certification.
- Import a SCORM package : integrate external content into the certifying path.
Frequently asked questions
- When is the certificate issued?
- As soon as the learner meets the conditions defined for the course (progress threshold, quiz success, aggregate score). Issuance is automatic and idempotent: one certificate per course and per learner.
- Where does the learner find their certificates and results?
- In their path (My online courses), with the My certificates, My quiz results and My documents panels.
- Can I disable automatic certification for a course?
- Yes. If you configure no certification rules in the Certification tab, no certificate is issued automatically. You can still issue one manually.
- Is connection time tracked even if the learner leaves the tab open without interacting?
- Certeef uses an active heartbeat to measure real connection time. If the learner leaves the tab in the background without interaction, the heartbeat stops, only real activity time is counted.
